Media Player / Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player is a media library and media player application created by the Microsoft Corporation, and it is mainly used play sound and video clips. Windows Media Player is also used to burn CDs and synchronize music and video with portable devices such as MP3 players. Users also have the option of using Windows Media Player to buy music from a variety of online music stores at a discounted price. Windows Media Player can be used just like a CD player, and allows users to playback sound, video, and images. Users are also able to fast forward, rewind and skip tracks. Windows Media Player also includes a ten-band graphic equalizer. Windows Media Player is the most recent version of the application, and it is now available for Windows XP and Windows Vista users. Windows Media Player 11 now includes a new product called urge, an online music store created by Microsoft and MTV. Urge is integrated into the updated version of the player.

The final version of Windows Media Player 11 was released to the public in October of 2006. Windows Media Player was then made available to Vista users in November of 2006. If you have Vista, you will notice that Windows Media Player has some features that are not available with older versions of Windows.

Here are a few more features that are included with Windows Media Player:

• Stacking of different categories of albums and songs.
• Enhanced CD burning capabilities
• Additional support for ripping CDs and converting them to WAV format
• Additional web-browsing abilities when browsing online music stores

Older versions of Windows Media Player included a license management tool but that feature has been removes in version 11. This means that users of music download services and online music stores will no longer be able to use Windows Media Player to back up the licenses and restore them to a new machine. If you want to restore a license, you will now have to go to the music store or download services directly. The Quick Access Menu that allows Windows Media Players to search the media library by opening up a separate pop up window has also been removed. If you have Windows Media Player version 11, you will no longer be able to browse the library when the media player is in toolbar more. However, you will still be able to drag and drop files into your playlist or Now Playing section.

Version 11 also provides more options for storing and retrieving your music files. Windows Media Player 11 now includes the “Instant Search” option, which now allows users to jump to any song they are looking for simply by entering complete or partial information about an album, artist, song or genre of music. Returns are sent with each additional piece of information you provide, narrowing down your search as you type. This feature can be used regardless of the size of your media library, and results are usually found within minutes.
