Javascript Error



JavaScript refers to the implementation of a scripting language called the ECMAScript standard. The ECMAScript standard is a script language that was formed on the principles of prototype-based programming, style of programming that does not use classes and instead uses existing images or prototypes to form a programming language. JavaScript was initially implemented by the Netscape Communications Corporation and is now being implemented by the Mozilla Foundation. This language is commonly seen on Internet sites and can also be used to allow scripting capabilities when objects are included in other applications.

Many people mistakenly believe that JavaScript is related or affiliated to the Java program, but this is not the case. While Java and JavaScript share a basic syntax as a result of being derived from C, the two languages have completely different semantics and their object models are not compatible.

JavaScript was first introduced and made available to the general public in December of 1995. The language was created by Brendan Eich, a developer at Netscape at the time. The language was originally named Mocha, then it was later renamed LiveScript. When Netscape started to add support for Java capabilities in Netscape Navigator, the language was then renamed to JavaScript. The syntax for JavaScript is loosely based on C, and the scripting language does not have any output or input constructions of its own. JavaScript differs from C in that instead of using basic I/O libraries that way that C does, JavaScript uses a host environment in order to format code. One of the most common uses of JavaScript is to write commands of functions that are already included in HTML web pages and use the website’s Document Object Model to complete tasks that would not be possible by just using HTML alone. This ability to interact with the Document Object Model enables users with JavaScript capabilities to open up a new window while remaining in control of the size and design of the window, validate web form input values, and edit images with just the click of a mouse. The ability of JavaScript to interact with the Direct Object Model of a website is commonly referred to as either SPA or DHTML.

JavaScript can also be used to make calls to a website’s service server after the page has been properly loaded. Making these calls allows JavaScript users to merge with the website’s Document Object Model in order for it to be properly displayed. This relates very closely with Ajax programming.

JavaScript interpreters are also included in other computer applications that are not web based. If you use adobe acrobat or acrobat reader to open up PDF files, JavaScript will often support these programs and documents as well. Mozilla routinely uses JavaScript to help carry out various tasks for all of the products that it offers. If a particular application does not have the necessary scriptable interfaces, JavaScript will often be used for interpretation purposes. In addition, the scripting that is done via Photoshop and other image editing software programs is also made possible through JavaScript.
