Internet Explorer ErrorMicrosoft Internet Explorer, also known as Windows Internet Explorer or simply Internet Explorer, is a web browsing program that was created by the Microsoft Corporation and has been included in the Microsoft Windows product line of operating systems since its introduction to the public in 1995. Microsoft Internet Explorer has been the most popular web browser for the past eight years, with nearly a billion users around the world by the end of 2006. The browser has been updated several times over the years, with the latest release being version 7.0, which can be upgraded for free if you have Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003. If you have Windows Vista, Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0 is already included. Version 8 of Microsoft Internet Explorer is currently in development. One of the reasons for the frequent updates of Microsoft Internet Explorer is to regain the market share they have lost as a result of the increasing popularity of the Mozilla Firefox web browser. The last public version of Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 was released on the Microsoft official website in October of 2006. Additional versions for XP and Vista were made available in November of 2006. One of the goals of the upgrade was to defend Microsoft Internet Explorers from phishing (the illegal practice of attempting to obtain sensitive information by pretending to be a trusted course such as a bank or government agency), spyware and viruses. Version 7 also provided for improvements in HTML formatting and gives users the option of blocking Java applets and Flash Media Player clips. If you have Windows Vista, Internet Explorer will operate in a protected mode, which means that the web browser will run in its own secure space and will not have any access to any other parts of your computer or operating system with the exception of the Temporary Internet Files folder. Since the application is running in protected mode, it will not be able to access registry keys or files in a user’s profile. This allows for your computer to be more secure from outside threats and it also prevents malicious users from installing programs on your computer without your knowledge or consent. Some additional features of Version 7 include tabbed browsing and a search box. Instead of having several windows up at one time, you can now have all of the webpages you are surfing be connected to one page with different corresponding tabs. You can also configure the search bar to automatically use your preferred search engine when performing a search. The annoying problem of having printed pages being cut off has also been fixed with the improved print preview feature. You are not view and resize web pages before printing them to make sure that all of the content appears on the printed pages. Version 7 also provides enhanced protection against spoofing to make sure that anytime you enter a website in a browser window, you are directed to the legitimate site, and not a fake phishing site.
